‘Community’ season 6: Yvette Nicole Brown joins ‘Odd Couple,’ Shirley questions arise
What is great news for “The Odd Couple” is news that probably makes fans of Yvette Nicole Brown on “Community” rather nervous.
Brown has been cast to replace Sarah Baker as the secretary to Matthew Perry’s character on the upcoming CBS project, which is going to start around midseason. Given that production on “The Odd Couple” could start before “Community,” this could pose some scheduling problems. Do we feel like she will still appear as Shirley? Sure, but we have a hard time thinking that it is going to be for every episode.
What we are learning more and more from all of these announcements (see Ken Jeong getting pilots, or Donald Glover wanting to focus on developing his own project) is that while the “Community” cast members love their jobs, it may also be nerve-wrecking to constantly work with this sort of lack of job security all of the time. When you are on this show, you really never have an idea when you are going to be back, and how much work you are really going to get. The contracts on the entire cast nearly expired before the show moved over to Yahoo Screen.
The one last thing that we will say now is that as much as we love “Community,” the show really should just do a movie after this coming season and say goodbye. We don’t want to see the show get to the point where the majority of the original study group is gone, and we’re getting closer and closer to that.
