‘Downton Abbey’ season 5 spoilers: Michelle Dockery on Mary romances (but not with Tom)
Just in case you wanted even more reassurance now that there will not be a romance between Lady Mary and Tom Branson on “Downton Abbey” season 5, this is precisely what we’re here for!
After denying that such a bizarre romance would ever happen last year, Michelle Dockery is once again stressing the same thing. She spoke to The Sun recently, and poured the praise on the two for developing a nice friendship; however, they do not have plans to start having an actual relationship with each other. Also, she explained just where the character is right now with her journey:
“Mary is embracing her new life, she has grown up. In the first series, she was this very young, spoilt girl with everyone telling her what to do and her trying to break free of that.
“But now she is a woman and a mother. She is old enough to make her own decisions.”
For those who have not heard, season 5 will pick up with Mary still trying to navigate the waters of her heart, with both Anthony Gillingham and Charles Blake still around vying for her affections. There will be a choice made at some point this season, and obviously not everyone will be thrilled with it. It’s impossible for them to.
As for some other romances, we are very interested to see what becomes of Tom and the new teacher in his life; also, is it weird for us to be rooted for Carson and Mrs. Hughes at this point? They have such a natural chemistry that we’d love for that to evolve into something.
We will of course have plenty more in the way of “Downton Abbey” scoop leading up to the episodes premiering in Britain later this fall, so be sure to be on the lookout for that. Also, sign up now if you want further news and updates courtesy of our CarterMatt Newsletter.
