‘The View’: Could Rosie O’Donnell really return next season?
Here is a story that we never thought that we’d be writing … ever. Rosie O’Donnell could be on her way back to “The View” after previously departing the show following just one season on the panel.
According to a new report from TMZ, there are discussions between Rosie and the show that are already pretty extensive, with the main sticking points rights now being money. Basically, Rosie wants to be paid in order to return to the show, and can you really blame her? This is the sort of show that you can make a ton of money doing, at least so long as the ratings and viewer reactions to you remain positive.
There are ultimately three reasons why we are skeptical of this move working out, if the reports about an announcement coming true end up being fact:
- This really didn’t work out very well the first time, now did it?
- Rosie’s show on OWN did not even last a full year before it was canceled. If you cannot be a ratings draw on OWN, how in the world do you expect to be one for ABC?
- Both Rosie and Whoopi Goldberg are very liberal people, and if you want to give the show some differing opinions, you are going to have to look out for someone very conservative. Then, just sit back and watch the fireworks. (We’d pay to watch Rosie and Sarah Palin go at it, for example.)
Given that “The View” lost both Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd in the past couple of weeks, and also Barbara Walters to retirement before that, this is a daytime series that has quite a lot of work to do in order to restore itself to its former glory.
