‘Arrow’ season 3: ‘Vampire Diaries’ star still waiting on hero dream

More scoop -We admit that we find it pretty darn delightful any time that you see a TV actor openly campaign for a role, which is why we’ve found it so fun to see Steven R. McQueen share his passion for wanting to play Nightwing on “Arrow” someday. The “Vampire Diaries” star may be around supernatural things all of the time on his CW show, but it’s certainly a very different sort of universe than the one that is set up in Starling City.

Unfortunately for McQueen, there is no word (at least for now) regarding whether or not this is actually ever going to happen. As he told The Wrap, he is definitely still intrigued, though: “If I get a chance to play a superhero, I can’t make any promises that I’m not going to run with it.”

We’ve actually come around on whether or not we wanted to see Nightwing on “Arrow.” At first, we weren’t that enthused; now, we are starting to feel like this would be a great little way to bring in some of the Batman universe without actually bringing in Batman. In that sense, it is very similar to their already-super-popular Harley Quinn character that was around for all of about four seconds during “Suicide Squad.”

Our major concern about it happening remains the show, and that is whether or not DC wants a whole lot of Batman canons existing out there at one time, in between “Batman vs. Superman,” “Gotham,” and then this show. The one argument you could make, though, is that it’s pretty unlikely you’ll be seeing Nightwing on “Gotham,” given that Bruce Wayne is a child during it.
