‘Game of Thrones’ season 5: Maisie Williams on Arya’s fresh start

There are not too many opportunities you get in the world of “Game of Thrones” to start part of your life over somewhere new. While there is no internet or tracking service with your fingerprints, travel is difficult, as is surviving in this world. When you have baggage that makes you a liability somewhere, being able to escape that is a one-in-a-million opportunity.

Luckily for Arya Stark, she has that courtesy of her getting on board a ship with a pair of magic words and also the opportunity to escape just after she left The Hound to die alone in the Veil. This is a move that she really took without a whole lot of regard for where she was going, or even everyone she was going with.

The show’s official Making of Game of Thrones blog asked Maisie Williams if she thought that Arya had any clue what was coming next for her when she boarded that ship, and her answer was certainly honest:

“Not at all, but she knows it’s going to have nothing to do with anything she’s done before. She’s ready to forget her old life, somewhere where’s she’s not known, without anyone to remind her of what she’s come from and what’s she’s lost. She’s ready to start again.”

The excitement with this storyline now is going to be how in the world you connect her back with everyone else. While most of the other characters are coming back together in some way, she has drifted apart rather substantially, unless she happens to somehow land somewhere another character or two are. But, this is Westeros and beyond, and that seems to be unlikely.
