NBC’s ‘Hannibal’ season 3 spoilers: Hugh Dancy on the death / life crisis
One of the rules that we typically feel exists for shows is that death really needs to mean something. If you continue to tease that characters are gone and then never have it be so, you do eventually get to the point where death doesn’t really mean much of anything at all.
So is “Hannibal” near running that risk? Surprisingly, no. Even though there have been many characters on the NBC show who have been killed off and brought out to life, we feel like there is enough of an almost-supernatural twist that we don’t mind so much characters managing to live through the impossible anymore. We’ve already seen this with Miriam Lass, and there’s also now Abigail Hobbs, Will Graham, Jack Crawford, and Alana Bloom in limbo.
Is it possible that all four of them could actually survive? Based on what Hugh Dancy had to say recently to TVLine, you cannot necessarily rule it out:
“That’s the million-dollar question … We have definitely got a history on our show of people surviving against all the odds — and I think to some extent that will continue. I mean, we don’t need to do a Game of Thrones. I do see the appeal and the great realization in television that ‘Oh, we can kill people, we can lose people — as in life!’ But then there also can be a bit of a swing back in the other direction where you say, ‘That doesn’t mean we have to.’ Especially in our show, which is one step above reality.”
Dancy has been all but confirmed to return, but the rest of the actors mentioned above are in limbo. We know that producers do want to see Laurence Fishburne back, but that could depend on his schedule.
We’re going to have more “Hannibal” scoop all summer long, so be on the lookout for that. You can click here to get further updates now, or here to dive into some more TV updates via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
