‘The Walking Dead’ season 5: Norman Reedus on working with Melissa McBride, more

The latest -Norman Reedus is a heck of a busy guy right now. Not only is he currently filming season 5 of “The Walking Dead,” but he also is appearing on awards shows (the Guys Choice Awards), and even doing interviews here and there in the heart of awards season.

As you may or may not know, AMC has positioned the zombie drama heavily this season with posters focusing on the characters, and with “Something Human” branded about them. We actually believe that the series should receive a Drama Series nomination on the strength of the past episode episodes, where you really get an opportunity to see what makes so many of these characters tick. One of those just so happened to be Reedus’ Daryl Dixon, who sat down with GoldDerby recently in a far-ranging interview.

What we really love about this interview above all else is how craft-centered most of it is. There is a lot of great stuff in here about working with Melissa McBride, how Carol helping Daryl gave him some of his humanity, his time working with Emily Kenney, and also just this crazy awards season in general. Norman has a relaxed, laid-back demeanor during most of the chat, but he’s also insightful in talking about the psychological layers of his character.

There is a tiny bit of season 5 talk at the end of the interview, but this chat really is not about spoilers so much as it is just looking at this past year for Norman on the show in a nutshell. It will be interesting to see if the Emmys will give this genre of television more of a chance this year; Norman and Andrew Lincoln have both been featured in campaigns across Los Angeles, and McBride also has a ton of buzz surrounding her in the Supporting Actress field.
