2014 Tony Awards: Hugh Jackman, ‘Aladdin,’ Neil Patrick Harris, and more in opening

Tony Awards -The 2014 Tony Awards aired on CBS Sunday night, and we imagine that everyone assumed that the night was going to begin with some sort of elaborate number from host Hugh Jackman.

In the end, this one certainly didn’t disappoint. We also wonder how Hugh isn’t exhausted now after going through this. He literally hopped around all of the theater, meeting a variety of different celebrities in the process. The best cameos, at least to us, included Neil Patrick Harris in an elevator and a very random look at a scowling Clint Eastwood. This was a very fun assortment that also had some dancers from “Aladdin” featured, and it led to Hugh getting on stage in the end and belting a few notes.

Did you ever doubt that Hugh would still be able to sing despite all of this physical exercise? Of course, he managed to figure it out without a problem. He then introduced the next performance, and the show was off to a pretty quick start.

Overall, we do feel like this is one of the speediest Tony Awards openings that we have seen to date. We didn’t completely understand every part of this bit, though, and maybe that is something that would be a little bit clearer to those who are actually a part of the Broadway community. After all, this is what this entire show is meant to be a celebrity of. We’ll just have to see how fun this is as the night goes on.
