ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 4: Bellamy Young on Mellie, acting, and more

We know that this current hiatus of “Scandal” is quite a long one. There haven’t been any new episodes since April, and there are not likely to be any more coming up until late September / early October.

Luckily, we do have something else to watch today that you should very much enjoy: A lengthy video interview with Bellamy Young courtesy of the SAG Foundation that really gives you so much insight on her background, what it was like for her getting the job as Mellie on the show, working with Tony Goldwyn, some notable moments in the past, and looking forward to the future. It really is a comprehensive chat, and if you are a young or aspiring actor in this business, this may especially be a helpful chat given that Young is someone who had to work really hard to make a name for herself. She did not just turn up for an audition one day and be handed the role of her career.

So where could we see Mellie go next? While Shonda Rhimes has a lock and key over most of the intimate details regarding her show, she and Fitz are in a very delicate position right now. They just lost their son, and there is a certain recognition between the two that if they want to continue to be powerful players in politics, they need Olivia Pope there for the physical, emotional, and practical support. Unfortunately for them, they are not fully aware of the fact that Olivia has left the building, and nobody knows where she is outside of her and Jake. This is what makes this such a brilliant, interesting cliffhanger.
