‘Survivor: San Jaun del Sur’: Jeff Probst confirms reversal on Redemption Island
Are the producers for “Survivor: San Juan del Sur” coming up with new twists on the fly?
This has certainly been an interesting week for the show, given that just a couple of days ago we found out that two contestants were scrapped at the last minute after there was a last-minute health concern that kept them from being able to participate. (We imagine that this has to be one of the most heartbreaking things imaginable after working so hard to get to be a part of the show in the first place.)
Now, we have also learned that there is going to be another significant change to this new season courtesy of something that will be taking the place of Redemption Island. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly on location in Nicaragua, Jeff Probst said that his initial promise that Redemption Island would be returning was not a lie, but after the fact, production decided on a twist that would be different, but could still make great use of the format of having contestants out there with their loved ones:
“We decided, we have this arena being built: What if instead of [Redemption Island], we use it for something else. Something that will make Blood vs. Water a little more… interesting.”
It is too hard to say whether or not we like an idea without even knowing what it is, but we at least will say that we like that Probst is taking risks and now just resting on his laurels here. Every season at this point is reliant seemingly on something new to force players to adapt, and this one is especially interesting since all of the players think that there is going to be a Redemption Island going into the game.

I am not a fan of Redemption Island. I think they should do away with it. I like the original format.
