‘Arrow’ season 3 spoilers: John Barrowman on why Malcolm ‘needs’ Thea

Roy -While Thea Queen may be walking into the arms of evil by going along with Malcolm Merlyn on “Arrow,” we don’t really blame her too much for the move. While Malcolm may be a deadly, threatening man, he has done something that Thea’s own brother Oliver hasn’t: Shown some honesty, and also some sort of desire in actually having her around.

Obviously, Malcolm is a guy who always has the wheels turning, so there is most-likely some sort of plan that has not been revealed to everyone just yet. This is a sentiment that John Barrowman himself seemed to echo when talking about his character in a new interview with E! News:

“Malcolm’s losing everybody around him in his life for whatever reason…he figured out the last reason he lost Tommy was because he became emotionally connected to somebody. Malcolm can control everybody physically or with money, what’s really interesting now is Malcolm needs to learn how to control people emotionally so he doesn’t lose anybody now … That’s what he he’s doing with Thea now because she’s at her emotional low. Malcolm needs to build his family back around him, whoever that may be. He needs Thea as much as she needs him.”

We’re excited to see this new side of Malcolm, just as we are equally hopeful that Malcolm will find a new way to be interesting that does not involve him always trying to cause mass destruction. This character works so well because of his many layers, and we are pleased to see that those will be at work in the series once again.
