‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11: Don’t count on Katherine Heigl appearance
Just in case you were wondering about whether or not Isaiah Washington returning to “Grey’s Anatomy” changes anything when it comes to whether or not Katherine Heigl will ever return, it turns out here that the answer is “probably not.” A year ago, it was made fairly clear that there were no plans from the Shonda Rhimes camp to bring Izzie back into the fold, and that seems to be just as true today.
Rhimes responded to a tweet last week regarding a possible Izzie return by saying that she’s “probably not coming back.” There may be a small group of people out there bummed out about this, but why would the show really need her back? We feel the difference between Washington’s Burke and Izzie is pretty substantial. When it comes to Burke, she was a significant part of Cristina’s life, and given the place that she was in, there was a fitting reason to have him come back so that she could move forward with her own career.
Why bring Izzie back? Most of the characters tied to her, like Alex, have already moved forward and there is nothing that can be gained from seeing her again. Also, we don’t quite imagine that everything is water under the bridge given that this show still has writers (go figure), and everyone knows what happened with some of Heigl’s comments there.
The last thing to bring up here is simply a matter of logistics, mostly because while Katherine has said in the past that she would be open to returning, she has a new show now in “State of Affairs” over on NBC. That should keep her plenty busy, and the fact that it airs on another network than “Grey’s Anatomy” would make coming over difficult.
Still, we know that there will be a contingent of people who want one more Izzie appearance before things end. We’ll be happy personally if the show focuses more on things that matter in the present, and providing fan service that serves more of a purpose.

I kind of agree here. It’s so pitiful that Izzie will never get proper closure due to Shonda’s bitterness, but at the same time… Season 11 will mark 5 years since she’s been gone. Everyone has moved on. Izzie surely has moved on too. It would be nice though if someone on the show could just mention where she is, how/what she’s doing. I think that’s the biggest thing. We just don’t know what the hell happened to her.

i stopped watching grey’s when izzie left izzie and george were my faves and the izzie and alex relationship was what really kept me watching greys. I did come back to watch the last few episodes of this season because i wanted to see cristinas farewell. It feels like a conpletely dofferent show!! I have to admitt that i was one of thise people secretly waiting and hoping for izzie to come back and her an alex end up together but i agree he has moved on so at this point it wouldnt make much sense but i do think ahe should make a guest appereance at the series finale she was a HUGE part of the show and shonda always said she decided not to kill her off one because alex wouldnt recover and two because it wasnt fair to her fans and as a fan I would at least like to know where she is at this point of her life and would hope that she made it as a surgeon and like alex has found someone and moved on.

I might go back and rewatch some episodes but i think it would be painful to watch alex with someone who isn’t izzie :(

Idk I guess ull like it…maybe. I just feel tht show has lost its style in writing, not necessarily the characters. Sure, they hired new ANNOYING characters like Jo, April and Jackson throughout the years and they HAVE put a lot of focus on them, at the expense of the originals, but sometimes I feel that even my favorite characters arent that great anymore! Its the show itself that’s gone stale, with its lack of storylines and poor writing…theyre mostly moping around the place “à la Webber” waiting for another tragedy to occur. This is precisely why izzie should return now!! But Shonda still holds a grudge. Whatever…there’salways next year
