‘The Flash’ spoilers: The new connection between Grant Gustin, John Wesley Shipp
“The Flash” has quickly earned the title of one of TV’s most-anticipated fall shows, and we have an answer now to one of the series’ most burning questions: How does John Wesley Shipp tie into all of this?
Earlier this spring, it was announced that the star of the original “Flash” was going to recur heavily on the CW series, but for a role that had not been announced just yet. Now, it has been finally confirmed that Shipp is going to be playing the part of Barry Allen’s father. He will appear during the pilot episode, and we wonder if this will be something similar to what we saw from Harry on “Dexter” over the years.
In speaking about this casting in a new statement, “The Flash” executive producer Greg Berlanti had the following to say:
“Given his history with The Flash, Andrew[Kreisberg], Geoff [Johns] and I could only think of one person we wanted to play Barry’s father and that was John Wesley Shipp … He gives a fantastic and emotional performance in the pilot and we are looking forward to his presence in many more episodes.”
“The Flash” will be airing Tuesday nights this fall on The CW, where it has some heavy competition from other shows but still should be able to find a place for itself. What it has going for it obviously is a great legacy already thanks to “Arrow,” a likable lead in Gustin, and also a huge back catalog of mythology in DC. There is no reason for this show to be anything other than amazing.
