‘Arrow’ season 3 spoilers: John Barrowman on Malcolm’s possible plans for Thea

More scoop -There are few “Arrow” announcements that make us as excited as the one that John Barrowman is going to be a regular throughout its third season. That means more opportunities to see Malcolm Merlyn get his evil on … and he may have a sidekick at his side this time around.

So while it is far too early to still know just what Malcolm is going to be up to with Thea Queen when the show picks up in September (there is still writing to be done!), Barrowman himself told E! News what he is specifically excited to see:

“I can’t wait to have some training sequences between father and daughter … Let’s see what will happen when he’s teaching her to be a tough cookie. She’s already tough, but he’s going to hone all that in and make her a tough b***h. That’s what he’s got to make her.”

It’s certainly possible that Malcolm ends up becoming the principal villain of the season now that Slade Wilson is off somewhere in a hole, but is this really the right thing? We enjoy the thought of him being a little more complicated for now, and the show bringing in someone else in the role of star villain. After all, this marks an opportunity to really see another story play out, and maybe one that isn’t necessarily so tied into the history of Oliver Queen as this one was.

The next season of “Arrow” will also feature Oliver and his own team in an interesting position, given that he is currently without his wealth, and also in a place of recovery.
