‘Modern Family’ season 5 finale review: Did Cam and Mitchell get married?

“Modern Family” has promised the big Cam and Mitchell wedding all season (well for many seasons really) and finally we are here at their special day. Will they actually be able to say their “I do’s”?

When we last saw our happy couple they were coming up against a few road blocks. First we had the great Cam tuxedo crisis as it was stuck at the dry cleaners and they were closed. Then we had the wildfires that were spreading towards their wedding venue, so they had to move the wedding up a few hours. Just as our grooms were about to walk down the aisle and exchange their vows, firefighters crashed the wedding to tell everyone that the wildfires were headed straight for them and that they had to evacuate.

With their venue about to burn down, Cam and Mitchell move the wedding to another venue. Not only that, but the person officiating their wedding went into labor and Phil ended up stepping up to the plate. Once they finally get to the new venue (which was abandoned by a runaway bride) Cam starts to worry that all of their bad luck might mean that they aren’t meant to get married and Mitchell does what he can to comfort him and it works until the runaway bride (and her whole bridal party) comes back to the venue demanding to use it. Finally the wedding ends up back at Cam and Mitchell’s house which is cozy for the amount of people they have and things go from bad to worse.

Cam’s parents break up is a disaster as his mother got drunk and his father won’t stop needling her. Are they really going to break up for good?

Finally Jay finds an appropriate venue for Cam and Mitchell to get married at (a country club) and not only that, but we had a beautiful moment where Jay walked Mitchell down the aisle. Jay’s moment with his son inspired Cam’s father to walk him down the aisle and it sparked a reconciliation between Cam’s parents.

The wedding turned out to be absolutely perfect and it was more then worth the 5 season journey to get to  here. Congrats Cam and Mitch! Episode grade: A
