‘Hell on Wheels’ season 4: Filming officially begins, anticipation grows
Good news for all “Hell on Wheels” fans: Season 4 is now finally underway! Those who were not up in Calgary previously traveled up there over the past week to prepare for the start of a new season, and now production is underway on the episodes to air on AMC in the late summer / early fall.
Multiple sources, including writer / producer John Wirth (a good source for behind-the-scenes photos, if you’re looking for updates in that capacity) confirmed the news today that filming has begun. This is a few days earlier than initial reports suggested, but that’s not much of a surprise. We’re lucky to even have any news regarding filming dates, given how coy many shows try to be when it comes to allowing such information on dates or locations to get available to the public.
Most of the updates that we have during the rest of the filming period will be on castings and plot teases, and we know that there will be some news when it comes to the former in time. In addition to recasting the role of Naomi, there are completely new faces entering Cullen Bohannon’s world in season 4.
Even though this show may be set in a different era and filmed in a different place than most others out there, the challenges that it faces moving forward are about the same as any fourth-year cable series. You have to find a way to raise the stakes beyond where they have been already, and then devise new situations for the characters that are completely new, but still fit with the kind of people they are. Anson Mount’s character will likely face these issues more than anyone, thanks largely to just how much his circumstances have changed now that he has a particular set of people in his life who rely on him.
