‘Doctor Who’ season 8: What former Doctor does not anticipate return?
“Doctor Who” is a show that tends to bring forth many things, and surprises is always near the top of the list. You never quite know what is happening behind the scenes much of the time, and there are also moments where we are pretty sure that you don’t want to know.
But when it comes to former Doctors turning back up, this seems like something that is unlike. There have been rumors of a Matt Smith cameo (at least a voice-over one) in Peter Capaldi’s new season, and Paul McGann (a.k.a. the Eighth Doctor) has said that he doesn’t think that any Doctor should get in the way of the “Musketeers” star finding his identity right away.
Now, McGann is adding that he would be surprised if he was to ever turn up on the show again at all, despite him having one of the shortest overall tenures out of any of the Doctors on TV. Just take a look at his new comments to the Doctor Who Magazine:
“You know what? I don’t expect to ever to be involved again. But I expect I’ll be surprised one day by something. That’s what Doctor Who’s about. I expect to be surprised. You can never say never with this thing. But it would have to be of the same heart and magnitude, and proper, and true. I wouldn’t want to run away with the rights and make my own spin-off. You’re either in the Doctor Who family… or you aren’t.”
To us, the best chance of McGann or any other Doctor coming back in the near future would be for a new Christmas special, or maybe some other sort of significant milestone hour in the future … but we cannot see it happening in 2014. Some times take time!
What do you think about some of McGann’s comments, and would you like to see a new Doctor surface on the series soon? Typically the only time you get to see former doctors turn up is in milestone specials. It really doesn’t make sense to do it in most cases, and you really don’t want to cheese things up by allowing the audience to think that the Doctor can just cross into his own time stream whenever he wants without consequences. I wouldn’t mind seeing a couple of minisodes as flashbacks like they did with Night of the Doctor, though.

What milestone was the Two Doctors exactly?

There’s a reason why I said “typically”. ;) That was kind of unusual. But who needs a milestone when you have Patrick Troughton?

I , for one, could see a voice over from a previous incarnation, gently giving Capaldi a gentle push, getting him out of the fog he was in after he first appeared….but that will happen in time.As for McGann coming back to the fold ,likely not, as other actors moved on so has McGann i’m sure. Looking back is not an effective way to move forward. It makes sense that this applies to all things.
