‘Survivor: Cagayan’ finale moves off of Sunday for first time since season 1
How’s this for a surprise when it comes to scheduling? For the first time literally since the show’s first season on the air, “Survivor” is moving its season finale from a Sunday night to a Wednesday. It will remain three hours (including the reunion show), but is just going to give a different day of the week a shot for a change.
As for the reason that CBS is doing this, it’s hard to fathom. Maybe it is a symptom of the show starting late due to the Olympics, or they just want to give something else a shot and see if it does better or worse. “Survivor” has now beaten “American Idol” in the ratings now two consecutive weeks, and it no longer has to be afraid of anything that it runs up against when it comes to competition.
Do we think that this will actually help the show score a bigger finale number? Maybe, at least since it won’t be airing against “Mad Men” or “Game of Thrones.” To us, what is probably going to be the real test when it comes to this show is whether or not it ends up having a great season until we get to the very end. It seems to be doing very well still for now, but that can be fleeting depending on what happens after the merge. For now, we’ll at least give CBS applause for keeping the finale three hours, and for having a show that is almost fifteen years old finding a way to be #1 in both of the key measures that stand out the most.
