‘Once Upon a Time’ season 3: Producers wanted Jamie Dorman back for guest spot
“Once Upon a Time” is either a great farm system for talent, or they have just been a victim of a lot of happenstance over the years. How else do you explain what is going on here? The likes of Jamie Chung, Sarah Bolger, Giancarlo Esposito, Meghan Ory, and now potentially JoAnna Garcia Swisher have all landed new TV roles after they signed on for the ABC drama … and then there is Jamie Dorman. He was known on the show as Sheriff Graham, but to most people moving forward, he will be known more as Christian Grey.
Even though the character is technically dead, he is someone that executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis had expressed an interest in using time and time again. He appeared briefly last season, and Kitsis tells “Access Hollywood” that they were hoping again to find a way to include him before his schedule exploded with other opportunities:
“Last year, when he did ‘Welcome to Storybrooke’ for us, it was fantastic to have him come back … He’s a friend of ours, he’s a friend of the show and unfortunately, this year, he goes right from the movie to ‘The Fall,’ so there was no – because they were shooting [‘Fifty Shades of Grey’] in Vancouver, we were hoping to [land him].”
With this being said, we don’t see Dorman as the sort of guy who is going to just leave the show on a lurch, and not decide to return simply because he is “too famous” for it or anything. We just don’t imagine that being something that is going to happen. However, it’s still going to be difficult to ever book him for anything, given that he will almost certainly be offered many more movie roles after “Fifty Shades of Grey” comes out.

With the exception maybe of JoAnna, those actors got other roles because of the lack of screen-time they were getting on OUAT. The directors have made it very clear that their central focus is on the main cast so recurring tend to get pushed into the background. Don’t really blame them for finding other shows. Sarah is only appearing in more episodes because her other show is also aired by ABC and they prioritize OUAT above it.
