TV quick hits: Jada Pinkett Smith joins ‘Gotham’; plus, ‘Ray Donovan,’ ‘Crazy Ones’ news
“Gotham” has just cast themselves another big-time gangster … and this one just happens to be a pretty big-name actor to go along with it.
Sources confirm that Jada Pinkett Smith, best known for her TV role in “HawthoRNe” along with her personal life, has signed on to play the series regular role of Fish Mooney. She is a tough, ruthless crime boss, and she will rule over another upstart criminal on the show in the Penguin.
This Fox series, which could premiere as early as the fall, will chronicle the early days for Gordon in Gotham City, in addition to a young Batman. The show comes from Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”).
As for some other big TV stories…
“Getting On” renewed – The comedy on HBO, which features the likes of Laurie Metcalf, Alex Borstein and Niecy Nash, will get a second season of six episodes.
“The Crazy Ones” news – According to TV Guide, Marilu Henner is going to appear on the CBS series moving forward as the mother to Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character of Sydney.
Rose McIver’s big role – You may have caught McIver on “Once Upon a Time” as Tinker Bell or “Masters of Sex” as Vivian, but what we know now is that the actress has signed on for the sequel to Lifetime’s “Flowers in the Attic.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, she will replace Kiernan Shipka (“Mad Men”) in “Petals in the Wind.”
“Ray Donovan” scoop – Wendell Pierce, who is coming off of his role on “The Michael J. Fox Show,” will play the part of a parole officer who gets help from Ray himself on the second season of the Showtime drama.
