‘House of Lies’ season 3, episode 4 preview: Jeannie leaves early … very early

While Jeannie may be working alongside Marty Kaan now on Showtime’s “House of Lies,” there is something that you really should know about their arrangement: It is not one where he has the sort of control over her that he probably would want.

In the sneak peek below, Kristen Bell’s character basically tells Don Cheadle’s “head honcho” that she is going to be leaving work early … at two in the afternoon. Why? She doesn’t even bother to tell him, and this is some of the tension that the two of them exhibit throughout the episode, which also chronicles their attempts to work with a hip-hop fashion brand that is currently sitting at somewhat of a crossroads.

Is this Marty / Jeannie dynamic starting to get frustrating to anyone else? We’re pretty sure that it must be, since it is almost hair-raising to see the same sort of stuff on this show happen time and time again. It’s clear that these two like each other, but just don’t want to suck it up and admit to it. While the two are at least working together again, Marty is trying to cast Jeannie as his sidekick in his brain … and there is no way that she wants to accept that. She’s found her own power now, and he has to find a way to appreciate that … at least if he wants things to change. Consider it a work in process.
