‘Modern Family’ season 5 spoilers: Fred Armisen, Patton Oswalt to appear

Are there two better guys that you would want on your comedy series as guest-stars than Patton Oswalt and Fred Armisen? If so, we want to know who they are! These two have done some pretty tremendous work on such shows as “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Justified,” and “Two and a Half Men,” and this is without even counting some of the work that they do on the shows that they are actually known for.

Now, we bring to you the news that both parties are going to be appearing on “Modern Family” season 5 in a pair of very different roles. According to a report from TV Guide, the upcoming Las Vegas episode of the show will feature the former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Armisen as Langham, one half of a gay couple who has a great time with Cam and Mitchell in Sin City; meanwhile, Oswalt is going to appear as a magician named Ducky Schindler, and will share some screen time with Phil. (The idea of Patton as a magician is something that we feel like our soul has been waiting for over the past several years.)

What makes this guest spot so perfect? Mostly that it just gives you yet another reason to check back into “Modern Family” if your viewing patterns have fallen to the wayside over the past couple of weeks. If there is something that the show has struggled with as of late, it is failing to get people still intrigued and invested on the same level that they once were. We cite viewer fatigue as a part of that, and also that there are not any long-term storylines that tend to really build up fan followings. Most people love anticipation while they watch, and the families on this were already pretty put-together at the start of the series.
