‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ 2014: Billy Joel will join Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande on ABC

We cannot think right now of a show that has a more varied lineup (or a longer title) than “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve ’14 with Ryan Seacrest.” At first glance, you see the same sort of performers that have been around in the headlines for much of the past year: Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Florida Georgia Line, Robin Thicke, Icona Pop, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Typically, we like to think of the show as the last opportunity for singers to perform their smash hits one last time before finally deciding that they are better off putting them to rest for a while.

Well, we now know that someone is joining the show with a little more of a legendary reputation behind him. According to Billboard, the iconic Billy Joel is going to be on the show performing a song from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Given that there are probably a good 50 songs from Joel that could be considered great, we’re somewhat unsure just what he will perform. “New York State of Mind” is an obvious choice, but what about “Piano Man” or “Just the Way You Are”? We’d also be thrilled to hear “Vienna”, “Movin’ Out” or anything from the “Glass Houses” album, but it’s unlikely.

If there was a show that would manage to pin down Billy Joel, though, it would be “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.” This is the #1 New Year’s Eve telecast out there, and it’s by a pretty substantial margin. Personally, we do still have a soft spot for listening to Kathy Griffin troll Anderson Cooper for two straight hours over on CNN, but that’s just us. We understand that everyone has their own personal favorites.

What do you think about the lineup that has been assembled so far for the show, and is the presence of Billy Joel that one extra thing that could get you to watch this year? Let us know below, and we’ll have some more scoop related to the special as soon as it comes out.
