‘The X Factor’ UK results: Sam Callahan, Tamera Foster, Luke Friend … and another tragedy?

The latest news -Did the right person go home on “The X Factor” UK tonight? Let’s start with what we do know and can say with at least a decent amount of certainty: This was a results show that we were reasonably unsure about. Going into it, we would have personally pegged Tamera Foster as the one to leave, mostly because forgetting your lyrics in the top 7 and saying “uh” on stage has to be considered reasonably unacceptable. However, we were worried about Rough Copy after a weaker performance, and Sam Callahan is the sort of contestant who should have left weeks ago.

So after sitting through yet another Miley Cyrus – “Wrecking Ball” performance and Gary Barlow reminding us of just how awesome he is, we were then treated to the results. For those of you worried if Hannah Barrett would be in the bottom 2 for the third time, don’t be: She was the first act saved tonight. We also learned through the voting tonight that this was the first time that an act from Louis Walsh’s team would be sent home.

But there really wasn’t that much when it comes to drama from this for us: The moment that it was revealed that Luke Friend and Sam Callahan were the bottom two this time, the writing was on the wall for Sam. Luke hasn’t been perfect, but he has been far superior. We also think that Sam’s elimination will help him, since some of those fans will cross over.

For the sake of being fair, though, we will at least still share our impressions of the two singers’ save-me performances.

Luke, “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” – This song barely even felt like the U2 version, and may be one of the best things that Luke has ever done. We’re still not sure he is more of a solo artist more than the frontman of a rock back, but honestly, the best thing that could happen for him would be to finish in around fourth or third place and get some freedom from the Simon Cowell machine.

Sam, “Iris” – When compared to some of his past performances, Sam at least gave this a good try. We don’t really see his elimination as a bad thing now. He has found out that he needs to work on his voice, but we could see him staying on TV via a reality show or a modeling / presenting gig.

Of course, Sam was sent home by everyone other than Louis Walsh, who chose to abstain from the voting rather than sending home one of the two acts that he has worked hard with ever since the beginning of the live rounds.
