NBC’s ‘The Voice’ rankings: Where James Wolpert, Will Champlin stand with Adam Levine

Adam Levine -As we prepare for the start of “The Voice” lives shows on Monday, we are going to start off today ranking every single member of the top 20, coach by coach. The reason that we are doing that now is simply because the voting is done by teams this week. After that, things will start to change a little bit and anyone can go at any time. Hopefully, this does not mean that Blake Shelton will just run the table again with most of his acts … but who knows?

The way in which we are ranking the contestants is with performance quality first in mind, but also edit and likability thrown in there, as well. You also have to remember that there is a history of certain kinds of acts doing well, and others that don’t seem to get really any love.

We’re starting today with Team Adam Levine, which we personally do feel like is the best team on the show this year. All five of these artists can sing, and we have a pretty good idea who they are.

5. Grey – Probably suffers from having the most transparent edit of the group and also a name that does not make her at times as personable as some of the others. In reality, the only reason that she has a one-word stage name is because her last name is impossible to pronounce.

4. Preston Pohl – He’s got the sort of voice that can do very well, and his challenge will be overcoming the other contestants with a little more airtime. He does have a fan base out there from his Christian rock days, and he better hope that they come out for him in full force if he wants to last the first two votes. Once he gets past that, he should have a pretty good chance of actually making it far thanks to his live performance chops.

3. Tessanne Chin – We do not necessarily feel as though Tessanne is the third-worst performer on this team by any means, but in looking at past seasons, oftentimes the heavily-touted female singer fails to make it into the final rounds. See Judith Hill as a good example of that. Also, women over the age of 25 also have struggled at times over the years, and Chin is 28.

2. Will Champlin – It feels weird to put a guy who had to be stolen twice to still be around this season in the #2 spot, but let’s face it: Will has gotten a ton of screen time, and his last two performances have been really great. He’s got the musical chops to do well on stage, and we see him coming up with creative songs to perform that will show off that voice.

1. James Wolpert – James has at times had an unpredictable voice, and what should help him when it comes to doing well in the voting is that he’s very memorable in appearance and in tone, he’s likable, and he has been favored by Adam since pretty much the beginning. This is a guy who could easily win, and there would at least be a chance of him selling a few records after the show.
