‘The Walking Dead’ season 4 spoilers: Chandler Riggs promises ‘big things’ for Carl

What's next -Is Carl going to have quite a substantial role on “The Walking Dead” this year? Well, he has to find a way to top his violent encounter at the end of last season’s finale, which was to us one of the more horrifying things that we’ve seen on the show to this point. It showed just how much the zombie apocalypse had changed him, and it was also one of the few things that could really make Rick Grimes actually take a step back and start to wonder whether or not he’s doing this whole “be a good father” routine correctly.

So what does Chandler Riggs have to say about what is coming up for Carl? Riggs (who probably has the sweetest gig out of any young actor known to man) was kind enough to tease the following to TVLine:

“[Carl] does something this season…. Man. Episode 9 is his episode. It’s so cool.”

Obviously, there is one big spoiler in this quote: Carl lives to see the second half of this season. (Episode 9 will probably air in February.) Is this really a stunner? Hardly. While Rick suffering seems to be one of the favorite games of Robert Kirkman and the writers (as we say “games” in the most sadistic way possible), it’s a little much to see the guy go from losing his wife one season to his son the next. As of right now, we would have Carl pretty low on the “who is about to die?” list. The only two people we’re more confident about surviving for the rest of the year are Daryl Dixon and Carl’s dear ol’ dad. The show, at least for the time being, would be much too awkward if they were not a part of it in any way.

So for now, Carl seems to be on a somewhat quieter road, but it will be very interesting to see if the death of his new pal Patrick on Monday’s premiere is going to be changing that for him at all.
