‘The X Factor’ USA spoilers: New details about the ‘four chair challenge’

The latest -Right now, “The X Factor” USA is in a pickle. While “The Voice” continues to flex some of its talent show muscles, this show contains to slide. By the end of this season, we’re not even sure that there will be a competition to show off anymore.

But Simon Cowell does at least have one more trick up his sleeve in an effort to get people excited about some aspect of the show again: The Four Chair Challenge. On Thursday night, the top 40 contestants will be selected along with all of the individual mentors, and then, the challenge will be revealed. Each judge will slowly fill up four chairs on the stage, and then replace singers with better singers as the competition goes on. Of course, the audience is going to get involved as well, turning this into a complete frenzy. We’re going to miss the judges’ houses part of the competition, but this does appear in some ways to create some more insanity.

In a statement, here is what Cowell had to say about the new twist, which will air starting next Wednesday:

“This is a brand new section of the show and we had no idea what to expect when we filmed it, but it became obvious very quickly that it really raises the stakes – for the contestants, for the judges – and especially for the audience. It’s a cross between Musical Chairs…and a Roman Coliseum. At one point, the audience totally disagreed with the judges and was so out of control we actually had to stop filming. What happened next was extraordinary. It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before.”

For those curious, the first live show is going to air starting on Tuesday, October 29, with the schedule probably still chaotic thanks to baseball.
