‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5: Ian Somerhalder broods in latest behind the scenes photo

Damon, why the long face? This is the question that we ask ourselves after looking at the latest behind-the-scenes photo from “The Vampire Diaries” season 5, which features Ian Somerhalder’s main-man vampire either being very bored, in deep thought, or somewhat depressed.

When it comes to the latter sentiment, it’s pretty clear to us that Damon has about zero reason whatsoever to be depressed. Just take a look at everything that the guy has going for him right about now: After years of fighting, he finally has Elena at his side. Not only that, but he also doesn’t have to worry about Klaus and the Originals running around in Mystic Falls anymore! When the worst thing that is happening to you is seeing your girlfriend go to college in another town, you know that you have a pretty easy life.

Now, if this photo was taken a few episodes into this coming season, we may be talking about something entirely different for a certain Mr. Salvatore. If there is one thing that we’ve learned from “The Vampire Diaries” over the years, it is that nobody really tends to stay happy for long. Drama will come in all forms, including more supernatural mayhem, Damon doing some things that no girlfriend would put up with, and Elena meeting so many new people at Whitmore College that jealousy could come into play. Based on all of the scoop that we have heard so far, the biggest problem that is coming up for this couple is something that is not exclusive to vampires or other creatures with powers; it’s something that every human goes through.
