‘Game of Thrones’ season 4 spoilers: Another character recast, though this one a minor role
Yesterday, we reported what was pretty shocking news that Daario, the warrior who made a significant power move in order to lend a helping hand to Daenerys Targeryan, was going to be recast for the new season of the HBO hit. This followed up the somewhat-less shocking revelation that King Joffrey’s little brother Tommen was going to see a new actor in the role.
So if we were to place the following news tonight on the shock scale, it would probably be around the same level as Tommen. It won’t make a huge impact on the series in the end, but a few longtime fans may notice a slight difference when the series picks back up. According to Winter is Coming, the role of “The Mountain,” otherwise known as Ser Gregor Clegane, has been recast; the new man playing the part is none other than Icelandic strongman Hafþór Júlíus “Thor” Björnsson. He is not someone with any significant acting experience under his belt, but he should service the role perfectly given his impressive size and strength.
This is not the first time that the Mountain role has been cast for the series. In season 1, the part was played by Conan Steven, and Ian Whyte took over for season 2. The character was absent for season 3, which takes us to where we are now.
What is your reaction to this latest news, and are you starting to become nervous at all about all of these recastings impacting the show on any significant level? We want to hear some of your thoughts below! The new season of “Game of Thrones” will begin in the spring of next year, as production is underway now.
