TNT’s ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ season 4, episode 8 review: Maura gets a visit from Cailin

Last week on “Rizzoli & Isles” Jane sprained her ankle while jogging and while many shows would have had our hero back on their two feet chasing down bad guys only a week later, we know that this isn’t a show that plays by the rules.

Jane is still in her boot for her sprained ankle and Maura has hired Jane’s mom, Angela, to help her de-clutter her life. Does Maura really need help or has she hired Jane’s mom to help her with her finances? Jane doesn’t know what the money problem is in her mom’s life, and as it turns out Angela is hiding tax problems from her kids – Patrick didn’t file their taxes and they now owe $27,000.

Maura gets a surprise when Cailin shows up on her doorstep announcing that her parents have gone to Europe and she needs a place to stay for 3 weeks while she studies for finals. Of course Maura welcomes her into her home, but wonders why she doesn’t want to stay at home alone. She explains that her parents have hired someone to babysit her (at 19) and doesn’t want to deal with that.

Maura finds out only too quickly how irritating Cailin’s mother Hope is when she starts getting calls a billion times a day about Cailin to check up on her. After assuring Hope that her daughter is just fine, she doesn’t hear from Cailin until after 11 p.m. and starts to turn into a worried mother figure herself. Cailin comes home from the library and Maura freaks out on her saying that she has better things to do then taking care of a selfish, irresponsible teenager.

As Cailin pushes the envelope by inviting friends over and making a mess of the house, Maura’s patience is pushed to the limit. Angela tries to coach Maura about having a teenager in the house and tells her to set some boundaries and they finally find a way to co-exist as Maura loosens the reigns a little bit.
