‘Game of Thrones’ season 4 spoilers: Meet Pedro Pascal, the Red Viper

Game of ThronesGame of Thrones” has just officially announced their first casting for the upcoming fourth season, and it’s a doozy: Through a long and difficult process, producers for the show have been able to find the right person to take on the role of the Red Viper, otherwise known as Prince Oberyn Martell of Dorne.

According to Entertainment Weekly, this coveted role, who arrives to King’s Landing from his kingdom with the thought of revenge on his mind, is Pedro Pascal. Some of the Chilean actor’s recent credits include “Graceland” and “The Good Wife,” and this casting is definitely one that teeters on the unpredictable side. Then again, how many times have we really predicted the casting for any of these characters? The only one that was somewhat-expected was Peter Dinklage as Tyrion, and that took some campaigning from the fans.

Want to see more about the casting? Then check out what executive producer David Benioff and Dan Weiss have to say about finding the right person for what could be a very important part of the episodes ahead:

“This was a tough one .. The Red Viper is sexy and charming, yet believably dangerous; intensely likable, yet driven by hate. The boys love him, the girls love him, and he loves them all back. Unless your last name is Lannister. We found a fellow who can handle the job description and make it seem effortless. He wasn’t easy to find and he won’t be easy to stop.”

The Viper is not a real successor to Robb Stark by any means, but for the sake of the show he could be as someone else to root for against the likes of the Lannister family, House Frey, and the bevy of other possible villains out there.

Do you like the casting, or is this one of those “I’ll wait and see” roles based on how little is actually known about the man? If you want to check out some new video interviews featuring the likes of Kit Harrington and Natalie Dormer, be sure to head on over to the link here.
