‘Dexter’ season 8 spoilers: A new (and extremely creepy) teaser video

“Dexter” has long been a fascinating experiment. This is a show about a serial killer, but yet still a show that makes you want to root for him. Is it finally time to pay the piper? This is something that will be explored for the Dexter Morgan character in the episodes ahead, and perhaps it is also going to be explored for us, as well. Is the show about to layer us with guilt and with disdain over cheering for a man that is responsible for the deaths of so many? Based on the new promo for next week’s premiere released by Showtime, it definitely feels like neither Dexter or us as viewers are being handed a one-way ticket to salvation.

When it comes to the actual footage, most of this is stuff that we have seen time and time again in other promotional material. For example, we already know that Deb feels like she “killed the wrong person,” and that Dr. Evelyn Vogel may not be up to any good in Dexter’s mind.

What makes this promo stand out to us is the music. Specifically, this feels like a dirge, and that the gates of a very dark place are being opened so that Dexter can come inside. Evelyn is clearly going to play a big role in anything that happens moving forward, but so is Deb. These are two people who have tried to understand him for years, albeit in very different positions. When these forces collide, who knows quite what is going to happen?
