‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 6 premiere, ‘Glee’ director Paris Barclay to lead DGA

DGAFor the 2013-15 period, the Directors Guild of America chose someone who could not be a better choice for their role as President, given the great amount of work that we have seen from him in the past: Paris Barclay. While film is the perfect medium for directors to share their unique vision, television is more of a writers’ medium since most directors are having to concede something to work within a vision of the show; however, Barclay still manages to be one of those directors that you take notice of, and the fact that he has 10 DGA Awards nominations under his belt, and that he has also won two Emmys.

In a statement announcing the news, here is what Barclay, who is the first African-American and also the first openly gay president of the guild, had to say about the honor:

“I am profoundly honored to be elected President of the DGA … The DGA has worked for more than three-quarters of a century to advance the creative and economic rights of directors and their teams and I look forward to continuing this strong tradition of service.  As the son of a glass blower and a tile maker from Chicago, I am extremely humbled to have the honor to serve in the footsteps of the legendary leaders of the DGA like Frank Capra, Robert Wise and Gil Cates.”

As for what Barclay has coming up, he has already directed the season 6 premiere of “Sons of Anarchy,” which will air at some point in September. (He is also an executive producer on the series.) We would be here all day if we talked about all of the shows he has been involved in, but some of his most-noteworthy directing credits come from “NYPD Blue,” “ER,” “The West Wing,” “American Dreams,” “Law & Order,” “House,” “Lost,” “The Shield,” “Monk,” “Cold Case,” “CSI,” and “Glee.” Some of his most extensive work was with “In Treatment,” which aired for a few years over on HBO.
