‘American Idol’ season 13: Nick Minaj joins Mariah Carey in heading out the door
Well, “American Idol” apparently decided that today was the day to actually ship off two of its current members of its judging panel. It was only an hour after the news first broke that Mariah Carey was going to be leaving the judging panel after one season, that we learned that Nicki Minaj will also be doing the same thing.
Following up a statement confirming Carey’s exit from the show, a representative for the Fox series’ producers also made it clear that it was the “Super Bass” singer who apparently decided to call it quits:
“Nicki Minaj is a superstar who brought a level of honesty and passion to American Idol and who had a tremendous positive impact on so many contestants this season … Given her extremely busy career, we understand and respect her decision and wish her the best.”
So what does this mean for the show? Basically, it allows them to really take a look forward and try to move on following what was a pretty disastrous season. Regardless of whether or not you liked Nicki (and we did from an honesty standpoint), the ratings fell fast and hard in comparison to past years. There needs to be some sort of substantial reboot at this point in order to give the show a fighting chance or this show may end up laying next to “Duets” in the TV graveyard. This could be why Fox is considering that panel featuring all former contestants, but nothing is confirmed yet. In addition, there is also no word yet as to if Keith Urban is going to officially leave the panel or not after a season on board the show.
