‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Production dates, details on Kol, Alaric

The Vampire DiariesWhile this is a pretty quiet time within the world of “The Vampire Diaries,” Julie Plec was kind enough to still hold a brief Q&A session with fans on Twitter. Within this, there were at least a few assorted details shared on a number of subjects … including whether or not we could see some beloved characters back on the show for another go.

We’ll start here with Kol, mostly because he is clearly one of the people who has the most-active fan following online. The bad news is that, at least for now, there are no plans to bring Nathaniel Buzolic’s character back to life following his brief appearance at the end of the season. However, Plec confirmed that there are some flashbacks possible in “The Originals,” and as a matter of fact, it would be weird to find out more about this family without ever seeing what become of their late brother (who surged in popularity thanks to his season 4 arc). The same potentially goes here for Finn, who was killed off back in the third season.

As far as a possible return of Matt Davis’ Alaric to the flagship show, sporadic appearances here and there do seem likely given Jeremy’s ability and the affection for the character. However, it sounds as though the actor’s intention to keep challenging himself with new roles will keep him from returning in a full-time capacity:

“I would bring him back in a heartbeat if I thought there was enough story there to make Matt satisfied.”

Production on “The Vampire Diaries” season 5 will officially begin in July, with the premiere date likely set as the first or second week in October. We’ll have more confirmation on the latter later on this summer.
