MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 3, episode 7 preview: Jenna’s ‘bloody Thursday’

It’s easy to mock sneak peek videos sometimes, but major kudos have to be handed out right now to MTV for releasing one of the best ones out there for Tuesday night’s “Awkward.” It basically captures the entire spirit of ridiculous homecoming traditions in just a minute and a half, and does so from every perspective.

Anyone who went to a suburban high school knows the feeling: Someone makes a declaration of love publicly prior to a dance, and they get to feel really good about it. Meanwhile, everyone else gets another reminder thrown in their face about how unhappy they are to not have a date for the dance, but still attend anyway because that’s what you’re supposed to do.

For Jenna Hamilton, accepting a public invitation from Matty is both gratifying and also humbling. She knows what it is like to be one of those girls, depressed over having to watch someone parade around with a fancy invite penned to them. (The likelihood of physical injury has led to the nickname “Bloody Thursday.”) Meanwhile, she’s grateful to have what she does.

Just to ensure that the clip does not end on a sentimental / sappy note, MTV is kind enough to stick one last little reminder in the last beat of the clip that this is a comedy show first and foremost, and Jenna is going to continually find some news ways to embarrass herself and make other people feel … well, awkward at the same time.
