‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 8 finale spoilers: First look at…

You know that you have built a show with a cult-like following when even your finales are heavily debated and speculated upon, and that is certainly something that “How I Met Your Mother” is dealing with leading up to the end of season 8. In between Barney and Robin’s wedding along with relentless questions as to who is the mother, there is constantly something that fans want to learn about.

Unfortunately, they are probably not going to figure out too much based on the alone on the photo attached here. Instead, this is a first look at Casey Wilson and Keegan-Michael Key guest-starring as a couple who will be having dinner at the same restaurant as Barney and Robin, and are also going to get involved in some sort of argument with them as a result.

The mystery behind these two is simple: Why in the world would executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas put a story that is likely filler into the last episode of the season? The answer to that is really rather simple in that potentially these two are not nearly as much filler as you may originally perceive them to be. This show has a great tradition of turning out A-plus finales, and we have to imagine that they serve as some sort of means to a greater end, whatever that may be.

The only thing that seems pretty apparent at the moment is that it will be very hard for Barney and Robin to have a wedding during this episode, largely due to the fact that neither the press release nor this photo says anything about it. The show has to keep something until the final season, but are you really going to make 24 episodes about the weeks leading up to that big day? The producers currently have us stumped on that one.
