‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Paul Wesley, cast celebrate end of filming

The Vampire Diaries CastAfter months of hard work, really since before Comic-Con in July for the cast (and even longer for the members of the diligent writing staff), filming on “The Vampire Diaries” season 4 has come to an end. So what does this mean? Celebration!

Earlier this weekend, many of the cast members (including Paul Wesley, Claire Holt, and many others who actually departed a little earlier on in the season) joined forces with the crew to celebrate a different sort of prom at the show’s wrap party. It only seems appropriate that showrunner Julie Plec was voted prom queen, no? She proclaimed on Twitter that this was her first prom, and she’d already found a way to receive the honor.

As for the reason for the prom theme, that seems to be pretty obvious: why not celebrate the fact that season 4 production is over with an event that just aired on the show Thursday night? The actual “Vampire Diaries” prom turned out to be a pretty dramatic affair, as Caroline had an opportunity to see Tyler while we also witnessed Elena finally have a moment where she started to realize that there was an element of humanity still in her.

Sadly, we have a feeling that the rest of season 4 is not going to be nearly as joyful. After all, the next upcoming episode is the backdoor pilot for “The Originals,” and in following that up we have the first of what should be two dramatic hours prior to graduation. This will be a huge episode, even more so than past finales. Why? It really allows us to figure out just what some of these characters are going to do to plan their future.
