‘The Walking Dead’ season 4 debate: Putting The Governor into focus

David MorrisseyHow do you handle a problem like The Governor? It’s certainly not going to be an easy one to solve, we know that much. The good news for Rick and the crew at the prison is that David Morrissey’s character on “The Walking Dead” seems to be very crippled: most of what he had has been stripped away, and everyone is  aware of who he really is now.

The bad news here? He’s still alive, and so long as that is the case, the capacity to create an enormous amount of trouble exists. We want to place the focus of this article on a number of scenarios we could see from the character moving forward, and at the end, we’ll present you with a poll for the best choice.

Option 1 – Come out guns a-blazing. This seems like the riskiest of all of the choices out there, and thus the most unlikely. Even the most spontaneous of villains need a plan, and he has to realize right now the he needs resources and a strategy to impact Rick moving forward.

Option 2 – Lay low, and then return with a bang. This seems to be the most effective path for almost any villain to take. There are so many examples of villains rising from the ashes (Russell Edgington on “True Blood,” Deadshot on “Arrow”) that this is the most effective strategy. No one wants to see The Governor be completely alone and helpless; you want a powerful rival in some way, and he needs time to regroup. This helps to justify the explanation we’re hearing that the character may not be the only major threat that the survivors have in season 4.

Option 3 – Just stay away. There is a certain understanding in the character going off with his tail between his legs, not to be seen or heard from again for some time until the heroes discover him. Of course, you have to know that this is not what The Governor is going to do. He’s a series regular in the new season, and while zombies are reportedly going to become a bigger threat through much of the upcoming season, he almost surely wants revenge.
