‘New Girl’ season 2 finale spoilers: Taylor Swift over ‘Downton Abbey’?
“New Girl” is a show that seems to revel in some of its various quirks; but now, one of the most pointed (and random) references of the entire series seems to have disappeared.
Fox released a new statement for all of their upcoming May shows, and on it was the “New Girl” season finale title called “Elaine’s Big Day.” What’s the significant of this? Basically, it means that the title is no longer going to be the hilarious “Downton Abbey Christmas Special.” It’s likely that the latter was really just used as a reference for a while, since like the hit British import, this was an episode that was tacked on the original order. (In the case of the Zooey Deschanel series, this is the 25th episode of the season.)
So what is the title now? It has been changed to “Elaine’s Big Day,” which is a reference to the fact that Taylor Swift is going to be appearing in the half-hour as a character of the same name. We don’t really know much else about what role she will play here, but the official synopsis does give us a few more details about the episode as a whole:
“Cece’s wedding day finds Jess and Nick making a decision about their relationship. Meanwhile, Schmidt schemes with a typically overenthusiastic Winston to sabotage the nuptials, although a shocking announcement may be bigger than anything he plans.”
The biggest problem really with the Cece wedding storyline is rather simple: it’s hard to imagine anyone out there taking it altogether seriously that Cece is actually going to get married. We’re sure that someone will get in her head to stop it, just like we will at least have some closure on the Nick / Jess relationship before we move into season 3.
