‘Supernatural’ season 8, episode 19 review: Did you cry a little?

SupernaturalWhat a great episode of “Supernatural” this was. If you have been able to avoid some of the previews and whatnot that have come out over the course of the past several days, then odds are you may have felt a very welcome emotion when watching this: surprise. There were some things that transpired during this hour that the show clever disguised until the moment that they happened, especially the first appearance of Jim Beaver as Bobby this season.

Ever since Beaver was at Comic-Con with the show last year, there was a part of us wondering if he’d be back. Luckily, the show did not rush this at all, and instead gave him a fantastic reason to come back into this world. As a way to complete his second trial, Sam had to transport himself down to Hell, and then find a way to get Bobby up to Heaven where he belongs … which of course was not easy thanks to Crowley.

Luckily, Sam had some help along the way. While we saw Amanda Tapping return for a rare appearance as Naomi without Castiel in tow, but perhaps even more notable was having to see Dean make the ultimate sacrifice for the mission: killing Benny, and then sending him down to a place in purgatory that even the vampire felt like he belonged. Who else got emotional in seeing this happen?

While all of this was thoroughly entertaining, we have a feeling that the final trial is not going to be nearly so easy. After all, Kevin has been kidnapped, and all of his notes are gone with him. Sadly, we’re going to have to wait for a few weeks now to find out anything else.
