‘American Idol’ reaction: Devin Velez, Burnell Taylor, Lazaro Arbos talk incident
There were clearly some highlights on “American Idol” Wednesday night, but there was also one of the most embarrassing moments in the history of the live shows. While during a group performance of “Can’t Help Myself,” Lazaro Arbos literally froze, didn’t sing the lyrics, and then messed up the choreography. Much like a domino effect, this then threw off most of the rest of the performance featuring Devin Velez and Burnell Taylor.
Immediately following the performance, all three of the show’s remaining guys were ripped to shreds by Nicki Minaj, with her in particular singling out Lazaro as the worst. Then, both Burnell and Devin seemed to throw Lazaro under the bus further during their remarks to Ryan Seacrest, explaining that they knew their parts and had them down pat. (Burnell even used one of our favorite reality show cliche lines: “it’s a competition.”)
So what did these three guys have to say after the fact? In a series of posts on Twitter, all three of them chose to respond to the performance and to their behavior in different ways.
Burnell – “We All Make Mistakes And We All Say Things We Wish We Could Take Back But͵ We’re All Humans”
Lazaro – “Oh well It must be some people’s main goal to hate on me everyday, I’m glad I’m giving them a reason to look forward to another day :)”
Devin – “Today had its ups and downs, and I wasn’t trying to offend anyone. I still love my bros, @LazaroAI12 and @burnellai12.”
Of the three responses, Lazaro’s is probably the most furstrating in that it appears he is playing the victim card more so than he is taking responsibility for his actual performance, but nonetheless, we think he’s probably earned enough of a sympathy vote to stay yet again. Instead, we expect to see Devin unfortunately gone this week.
What do you think of the way in which the guys responded here? Be sure to share your thoughts below, and you can also read our full review from Wednesday’s show over at the link here.
