‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 spoilers: Laura Carmichael teases more ‘exciting things’
By the time that “Downton Abbey” season 4 came to a close, it was hard for any of Robert’s daughters to have anything exciting to talk about. After all, one of them (in Lady Sybil) was dead, and another (Lady Mary) was about to be shocked with the revelation that the father to her just-born child in Matthew passed away in a stunning car accident.
The only daughter with something even remotely exciting going on with her life was Edith, but even this was controversial as some people in her family expressed their disapproval over being with someone who was technically still a married man. So will this sort of conflict and tension continue? Speaking in a new interview with ITN, the actress would not get into detail; however, she did summarize what most of Downton is feeling like after the news about Matthew’s passing comes in:
“Everyone’s a bit blue, as you can imagine, at the start of the series. But there’s lots of exciting things that happen, and I think it’s going to be great series.”
As for her own character, Carmichael explained that some of what she was the most excited about had to do first and foremost with fashion (or at least when it comes to what she can give away):
“She’s evolving. It’s really exciting, and we move through the twenties the fashions get more exciting and she gets lots of fun dresses.”
In case you’re hoping for more in-depth scoop, you will be hoping for a while. As we detail in the article here, this is one of the most heavily-guarded series on all of TV in regards to spoilers.
What do you think about about Carmichael has to say here, and are you happy to at least get some scoop … even though this is hardly not anything particularly detailed? If you want to see one alternate idea for season 4 revolving around “The Walking Dead,” be sure to watch the video over here.

Read it again – its says “some people” in the family disapprove, not everyone in her family.

Hope to see Edith use her journalism column and her determination to effect change for divorce from the insane. Believe historically the change does not take place until 1937. But perhaps, as an Earl’s daughter, she can get an individual judgment for Michael Gregson–after five episodes, of course.

who write this – her family express disapproval to something they don’t even know.

Everyone in her family disapproved? I may have missed something, but I think the only one who knew Michael is married was Matthew, and he, er, took that with him down the embankment. Don’t think Papa knows yet, or Dowager or even Mama or sister Mary. I think that lovely revelation is saved for season 4. I’m hoping they all say they’ve realized life is short and tell her to do what makes her happy–but I don’t think we’ll see that turnabout for old Edith.
