Prince books ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ appearance for Friday
This is turning out to be quite an impressive month of bookings for “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” Odds are that you already heard that Justin Timberlake has signed on to do a full week of shows beginning on March 11, and now a pop legend in Prince has agreed to stop by.
According to the Associated Press, the notoriously reclusive “Purple Rain” singer is set to make an appearance on Friday night’s edition of the late-night comedy show. There is no word yet on what he will be performing, but it will officially be a pair of songs. Prince has a new song out entitled “Screwdriver,” and is planning a tour for a little later this year.
This actually marks the second television appearance by Prince this month, as he also appeared at the Grammys in order to present the award for Record of the Year to Gotye. The “Somebody That I Used to Know” singer seemed to be completely enamored at the thought of meeting someone who he believed to be a major influence on his career, and spent the first part of his acceptance speech thanking him.
So what has made Fallon’s show a go-to destination for music? It could in part be that he is a musician himself, and that he has one of the best house bands in show business in The Roots, who bring a different sort of energy to the set than any other talk show around the country. Despite being a relatively new show, Fallon has had a pool of musical guests that only others can dream of.
