‘Downton Abbey’ season 4: Another star expresses their interest
As you may have read from our recent article, “Downton Abbey’ season 4 is getting set to begin filming in the months ahead; and with that in mind, we are seeing actors both express interest in joining the show or merely asking questions all about it. (There are also a few occasions, including Gwyneth Paltrow, where the press just makes up a rumor and runs with it.)
So who would be open to a part on the show now? It’s none other than Billy Connolly, who recently spent a great deal of time working with Maggie Smith on the dramedy film “Quartet.” Speaking in a new interview with Heatworld, here is what the actor had to say on the prospects of potentially spending some time with the Dowager Countess at her famous estate:
”I’d love to work with her again, I’m not sure how I’d fit into the ‘Downton’ world, it’s maybe not quite right but it would be a laugh I guess … I loved working with Dame Maggie Smith. She’s hilarious, so funny in between takes and then they say action and she can turn it on like that.”
Thus far, producers for “Downton Abbey” have been extremely quiet on the subject of just who could be joining the show moving forward. The only new character that has been officially announced at the moment is a love interest for Mary (Michelle Dockery), and this one could even be around for a potential fifth season if they end up being beloved enough by viewers. We do anticipate some other characters joining the cast, but they will be announced in the weeks and months ahead.
Who do you want to see join “Downton Abbey” season 4? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below, and you can see a brand-new spoof of the series using paper over at the link here.

So disappointed that Mathew would be killed off!! Too much tragedy in season 3!!! Please bring him back, however!! He was such a grounded character , which was much needed in the series! He was down to earth, related to all the characters and loved and respected hs mother! He was truly the only genuine character on the show!! Why would you let him go?????

Please bring Matthew back to Downton Abbey. I love his character and his relationship with Lady Mary, Tom and the developing partnership with Lord Grantham. Matthew is so grounded and moral. Dan Stevens please stay with Downton Abbey – the show needs you.

I’m frustrated – Too much heartache in one season – 2 beloved characters are gone! PLEASE bring Matthew back….he is such an integral part of the whole family. I’m banking on Season 4 to be a good one….there needs to be some pretty darn good character development to make up for the losses.

Have the producer$ done all that they can to keep Matthew around? One can ju$t imagine the rating$ blockbu$ter extravaganza were Matthew to once again appear, alive and well, on Downton Abbey next $ea$on.
Where there’$ a will, there’$ a way!

I agree with previous comment…I hope Dan Stevens will change his mind & want to come back…a miracle recovery….or, a bad dream of Mary’s [like Dallas with Bobby many years ago].

I think the same thing. Matthew is very important in the show. I rather have the show end at season 3. and have a Downton revisited for Matthew and Mary’s children. I think the next generation will be interesting too. There will be charlie, M/M children, Tom’s daughter.

The Matthew/Mary relationship is so central to the story now, it is hard to see how the story will go forward without it. Not to mention the Matthew/Thomas Branson relationship. I think that some really creative script writing will be needed if the audience is to be kept involved. I wish that Dan Stevens would change his mind and stick around awhile longer!
