ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 5 spoilers: First look at James Brolin

In case you were wondering why “Castle” was airing a pretty lighthearted Valentine’s Day episode next week, the answer is pretty simple: they are going to be following it up with one of the most-emotional two-partners in the history of the show, and one that is truly going to put Nathan Fillion talents to the test as Rick is not only going to confront his father, but face just what happens when his daughter is in danger.

The photo you see attached here of James Brolin comes courtesy of TV Guide, and it is pretty apparent that the man is hardly someone who is afraid of getting involved in some pretty nasty situations. As executive producer Andrew Marlowe notes to the website, the second part of this is going to put Castle in a very difficult place when his father enters the picture:

“There will be a moment between father and son when Castle comes to a realization and the two men confront the realities of their relationship.”

While Marlowe would not say how exactly Brolin’s character figures into helping to resolve the shocking storyline regarding Alexis being kidnapped, he does explain ho Molly Quinn also has her work cut out for her when it comes to the gamut of emotions she will be forced to play:

 “She tries to escape any way she can but keeps getting thwarted … Near the end, Alexis kind of falls apart.”

This father storyline is originally something that Marlowe was hesitant to include during this season, but he ultimately decided to go through with it after figuring out an idea that he was rather fond of.
