‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: What we know on ‘Originals’ spin-off

OriginalsWith there being so much information floating around out there at the moment about the potential “Vampire Diaries” spin-off series “The Originals,” we felt as though this would be the prime opportunity to summarize everything that has been reported thus far. As more information comes out, this post will be continuously updated.

Familiar faces – As of right now, the three leads currently cast for the project with “Vampire Diaries” connections are Joseph Morgan (Klaus), Daniel Gillies (Elijah), and Phoebe Tonkin (Haylay). Gillies’ involvement is technically in second position to the CTV drama “Saving Hope,” but there are not expected to be any conflicts.

As for the rumored names, either Claire Holt (Rebekah) or Nathaniel Buzolic (Kol), pictured, could be a part of the series depending on whether or not they survive the season. After all, the more Originals the better, considering what the title for the show is.

New faces – As for right now, the characters that will be original to this series (pun very much intended) include an old chum of Klaus’ known as Marcel, a Tulane college student new to the supernatural world in Camille, and a pair of new witches who bring with them ambition as well as insecurity.

Behind the scenes details – The backdoor pilot will be filmed in the weeks ahead, and will air on The CW on April 25. From there, it will be up to the network to determine whether or not to continue forward with the show. If they do, expect it to premiere in the fall, likely after “The Vampire Diaries” at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

Julie Plec is expected to serve as executive producer on the project, and the involvement of Kevin Williamson is at this time unclear.

The setting – The show will take place in modern-day New Orleans, but the backdoor pilot will be filmed both there and where “The Vampire Diaries” set is in Atlanta. It is unclear whether or not the series will continue to shoot in both cities if it is picked up.
