‘Glee’ season 4, episode 11 preview: Why does Tina want Darren Criss’ Blaine?
There are some strange storylines that tend to unfold on “Glee” every year, and there is certainly one coming out Thursday night that has us initiating an old-fashion eyebrow-raise. Why? Let’s just say that it involves pairing together a pair of characters that will never be together, and it is really thanks to one person being not even remotely into the other.
In the video below, Jenna Ushkowitz reveals that it is her character of Tina who comes up with the idea for McKinley to have a Sadie Hawkins Dance, with the primary reason for it is that she has a crush on Blaine (Darren Criss), and this is a way to get him to spend some time together with her. It’s pretty clear based on the video below that she is successful in this mission, though you also have to wonder why she is into someone who clearly is gay.
To make matters worse for Tina, this is not the first time that we have seen a female character make a move on Blaine. Remember back in season 2’s “Blame It on the Alcohol” when Rachel Berry tried to make an awkward move on the guy while getting a little boozed up? The two actually did get a little bit physical, but not before realizing just how terrible of a mistake it really was. Blaine was clearly in a different place then, as well; now, he is completely transfixed on trying to find a way to get Kurt to be with him again after everything that the two parties have went through.
In case you’re looking for something a little bit funnier, the clip also focuses on some funny moments for Jake (Jacob Artist) and Ryder (Blake Jenner), as the battle for Marley’s heart continues.

I’m a little tired of them putting Blaine in storylines where his orientation is questioned. (Spoiler Alert) He & Tina are about to kiss when someone stops them. That is so offensive to me. It’s ALWAYS the gay character that is made to question their sexuality. Would they ever have Finn or Sam get caught up in the moment and kiss a guy? Hell no. I’m sure this time will be played out as a comedic storyline (as opposed to Blame it on the Alcohol – which feature the Rachel/Blaine ridiculousness) but it’s still offensive. What kind of msg does it send gay kids struggling to accept themselves? To just keep trying til you find the right girl?
I’m all for Glee adding a truly bisexual male but the show needs to stop trying to rewire a character who has already been established as gay.
And all that aside, Tina is going to be portrayed as unhinged (yes, this silly storyline continues for THREE episodes – when her “infatuation with Blaine reaches a tipping point”.
Both characters (and actors) deserve better.
