Ratings: ‘Revenge’ season 2 hurt badly by Golden Globes
Let’s all take a moment now to scold ABC for doing something very silly on Sunday night: wasting original episodes of “Once Upon a Time” and “Revenge” on a night where they had to know that there was a ton of competition all over the place. Not only were the 2013 Golden Globes on TV, but CBS had a post-football overrun (which always leads to big numbers), Fox was airing their comedy lineup as usual, and HBO and Showtime were launching new lineups.
This baffling move, which is really almost as crazy as airing new episodes of shows the day before Thanksgiving, led to some of the lowest ratings that the network’s shows have received in ages. While “Once Upon a Time” held on reasonably well with a 2.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic, “Revenge” tanked all the way down to a series-low 2.0. To think that at one point last year, this show was projected to be a long-term hit for ABC. With “Scandal” surging now and “Nashville” staying steady, we’re not 100% positive that it will even be renewed. It’s still likely to happen, but this is a timeslot that the network used to rule with “Desperate Housewives.”
As for “Happy Endings” and “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23,” don’t expect them to last much longer at all. The latter show managed only a 0.8 rating and under two million viewers, which are the sort of numbers that barely gets you to survive on The CW. These two shows are very funny, but unfortunately have just never found the market on a network that is not traditionally known for edgy comedy.
What are you blaming the “Revenge” ratings disaster on right now? If you want to look back at what happened (just in case you were watching the Globes or something else instead), you can do so over at the link here.
For those curious, official numbers for the Globes will not be known until later in the day, but early projections have it tracking to be the most-popular ceremony in six years.
