‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 3 spoilers: More on the darkness within Aria’s dad

Pretty Little LiarsAs you saw within the winter premiere of “Pretty Little Liars” season 3 on Tuesday night, Byron Montgomery is not exactly a saint by any means of the word. Not only has he tried to cover up an affair with Meredith to the world, but he has effectively criticized his daughter for having secrets while he is pretty much doing the same thing.

To make matters far worse, we also now know that Byron was paying off Alison in blackmail money in order to keep quiet about the tryst altogether. This of course makes Chad Lowe’s character one of the biggest suspects out there to be Alison’s killer, largely because he is a man who really has so very much to gain by seeing her dead. This makes the issue of blackmail go away, and he can manipulate his own daughter in Aria enough to keep her from blowing the whistle to much of anyone who asks.

But could Byron really be a killer and also be a parent to one of our leading ladies? This is what Oliver Goldstick (who serves as an executive producer) was asked in a new interview with TVLine, and he replied with a rather interesting answer:

“You know that Hanna’s mom has already committed certain crimes — granted, in pursuit of helping her family… But our parents are not perfect; they are liars. Byron in particular has been many shades of wrong since the pilot, because of his affair and asking Aria to keep it a secret for a long time. So, this is not out of the blue. This is a person who has been deceptive, who has been a liar since the show launched, and now you’re getting to see the depths of it.”

Thanks to Meredith getting rushed to the emergency room with burns, you know that this story is far from over at the moment; however, the question we have to ask now is just how much worse is it going to get. Are the Liars really going to be able to unlock the mystery of a man that Aria has such a close connection to? There’s something different about his thanks to that paternal status than any other person that they have battled, and this could lead to some trouble for the characters moving forward.

What do you think is going to happen with these two characters? Be sure to share some of your thoughts with a comment below, and you can read our full review of the winter premiere over at the link here.
